Public Speaking

 

Students in Mr. Bronn’s Public Speaking classes recently completed a project in broadcasting using the school’s mobile computer lab and the recording program Audacity. Students chose among an advertisement, news brief, or sports commentary and wrote an original script before recording. This assignment stresses the power of voice without the aid of nonverbal communication.

Geometry

 

Students in Mr. Fitzsimmons’ and Miss Scoralick’s Geometry classes participate in a hands-on probability and statistics activity. This activity requires students to apply their knowledge of probability and statistics to real-world applications such as analyzing weather data, shopping for clothes, as well as the games Uno and Monopoly.

Introduction to Woodshop

                                 Mr. Terevianen and his students work on building Gumball Machines. These multipart machines required skillful use of a router table and scroll saw among other woodshop staples. Precise measurements were needed in order for proper functioning. Students are excited about the final assembly and use of these desktop accessories.

NMHS Drama Club

The NMHS Drama Club put on their first full production of “Murder Me Always”, an interactive murder mystery, January 6th and 7th.  The cast put on two well received performances and will take their show on the road Thursday, January 19th, performing at the New Milford Senior Center.

Attention Incoming Freshmen

It’s that time of year when high school counselors begin meeting with 8th graders at Sherman School and Schaghticoke Middle School. They are scheduled to be at SMS on January 17th and Sherman school on February 27th. They will present information on course offerings at the high school, what to expect in freshmen year, credit requirements, available activities and tips for success! They will also distribute the Program of Studies booklets.

Global Studies

Students in Mr. Jarvis’ and Ms. Hanssen’s Global Studies class go through a demonstration which contrasted reincarnation in both Buddhism and Hinduism.  Volunteers are depicted above, left.

Pet Club

A representative from New Milford Animal Welfare presents information to students about their programs during activity period. Members of the Pet Club made dog biscuits and sold them to raise money to donate to Animal Welfare. Students' efforts are greatly appreciated.

Program of Studies

Early in December,  Cut, Paste & Copy students asked for submissions for the Program of Studies Cover Contest. The criteria included 5″ x 7″ size, portrait format, with school related topics such as career choice and the future. 15 entries were received. The CPC class critiqued the entries, along with Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Curtis and voted for which would become the cover of next year’s Program of Studies.  Congratulations to our winner,  Ashley Lian and thank you to all who entered.
